Moddable Platformer for Godot: Create Games Without Coding

Let’s face it—game development can seem intimidating, especially if you’ve never written a line of code. But what if there was a way to dip your toes into game design without feeling overwhelmed? That’s where a moddable platformer come in. These are tools that let you tweak and modify different aspects—like player abilities, visuals, and even game mechanics—without requiring any coding skills. It’s like having a ready-made playground where you can experiment, create, and, most importantly, have fun while learning.

A moddable platformer is a fantastic way to break down complex game design concepts into something approachable. Imagine adjusting how many lives a character has or redesigning the environment with just a few clicks. You instantly see your changes come to life, which not only boosts creativity but also helps learners understand the “why” behind how games work. This hands-on approach encourages problem-solving and critical thinking, and the best part? It’s fun! It’s learning by doing, where you can express yourself and explore new ideas.

An Open-Source Moddable Platformer in Our Game Development Programs

This idea of learning through creation is at the core of our game development programs. We believe the best way to learn is to play, create, share, and reflect. By integrating an open-source moddable platformer into our curriculum, we’ve designed a unique space where students can dive into the world of game development and experiment with design elements. They start designing right away, modifying gameplay and visual styles in our Godot-based platformer. And don’t worry about getting bogged down by code! This platformer lets learners focus on the fun stuff—design, storytelling, music, and art—without needing to write a single line of code (unless they want to, of course).

By giving learners this kind of creative freedom, we’re helping them discover what excites them, whether it’s crafting captivating visuals, composing game soundtracks, or designing challenging levels. Our programs open the door to all these possibilities, allowing learners to explore their interests while building career-ready skills in a fast-growing field.

Making Learning Accessible to All

We’re not just about teaching game design—we’re about making sure everyone has the chance to learn. That’s why we’re committed to making these opportunities accessible to as many learners as possible, no matter their background or location. Whether through direct instruction or our train-the-trainer model, we’re working with partners to bring our programs to communities across the USA, Latin America (LATAM), and beyond.

Our moddable platformer plays a big role in this mission. It’s designed to be approachable for everyone, regardless of experience level, giving learners a head start in game design without the usual barriers. By making it easy to get started, we’re helping more students discover their passion for creating and collaborating. And that’s what we’re all about—unlocking potential, sparking creativity, and giving learners the tools to tell their own stories through the games they create.

At the end of the day, it’s not just about teaching technical skills; it’s about empowering learners to see the world differently, explore their creativity, and build something they’re proud of. We believe that with the right tools and support, anyone can become a creator.

Supporting Open Source

At the Endless Foundation, we’ve always been passionate about open-source projects. We've been involved in initiatives like Endless OS, GNOME, and now Godot, each with the goal of making technology more accessible. Through Endless OS, we’ve brought offline computing to underserved communities, giving more people the tools they need even without reliable internet. Our work with GNOME has made the platform more user-friendly, especially for those just getting started with open-source software. More recently, we’ve stepped into game development by supporting Godot, helping aspiring developers create games and interactive experiences with ease. It’s all part of our ongoing mission to empower creators and make tech more inclusive for everyone.
